New Year’s 2018 Resolutions for College Students

Everyone looks forward to a new year with fresh expectations, but not all of them are successful due to lack of plans or resolutions. As students in college, failure to manage studies and other life’s important activities could be taxing, affect performance in school, and create financial stress. However, clear New Year’s resolutions would not only prevent stress but also improve your life.

So, if you’re going to make the best out of the 2018 New Year in relation to your studies, check the following tips:

1. Health is Wealth

“Health is wealth,” they say. Your health is very important; without sound health, you may not achieve your New Year’s goals. See your medical provider for a general check-up and follow instructions, schedule regular time at the gym or take walks. Ensure to live healthy and abstain from health-damaging habits.

2. Keep Finances in Check

Buying everything you wish for is a recipe for a financial mess. Create a budget with prioritizing first on what you need, not what you want. Keep tabs on your spending and rank your expenses in order of importance. Avoid becoming broke.

3. Stress Control

Use a calendar to schedule your activities that allow you to create a balance between academics, work, co-curricular and extracurricular activities. Finish your assignments on time. Reduce your activities. Take your rest and decrease stress by all possible means.

4. Sleep is Important

Sleep provides an escape from stress and tiredness. It also rejuvenates and promotes good health. It’s true that college life is stressful and could make you sleep-deprived; however, make getting certain hours of sleep one of your New Year’s resolutions. Getting enough sleep every night is critical to your health and success in school.

5. Turn off Digital Devices

Spending too much time on digital devices could have a negative impact on your eyes and health plus wastes valuable time. So, reduce the time you spend on your devices. Instead of chatting or sending a text (SMS), call or send a written letter or note.

6. Build Your Spirituality or Faith

Nurture your mind and spirit with activities, books, and friendship. Build up your faith or spirituality by finding a place of worship or gathering that helps nurture your soul.

7. Get Rid of Stuff You Don’t Need

Save yourself the stress of keeping items you don’t need. “One man’s trash, is another man’s treasure.” If you haven’t used it (stuff) within the last 3-6 months, maybe it’s time to donate or sell it.

8. Find Ways to Laugh, Find Joy

College can be stressful. Laughter, many times, is considered “the best medicine.” Attend a local comedy club, theater or watch a funny movie. Find a good book and go on a reading adventure.

9. Make Time to Connect with Nature

Nothing refreshes us better than the sight and sound of the ocean and the smell and touch of the outdoors. Schedule a getaway to the beach or countryside where you can feel the coolness and freshness of nature. It’s good for you.

“Variety is the spice of life.” Try something interesting different from your studies and present activities. You could sign up for a race, community service, take a dance lesson or an art class. Avoid a mindless routine and spice up your time.
